The ADAC child seat test autumn 2022

Autumn time also means test time - no, not a corona test - the biannual child seat test by ADAC has taken place again and the result has been surprising. Of 20 child seats tested, only one child seat was rated "poor", all the other child seats passed the ADAC test with a test rating of "satisfactory" to "good". But before we tell you which seats these are, we would like to first of all, the question of which criteria were tested on the child seat.

The test criteria

A strap that is too tight and cuts into the neck. A child seat that tears out of its anchorage or a seat with covers that contain too many harmful substances. Doesn't sound good - but they are fatal errors that have already occurred in ADAC tests. To ensure that these child seats do not end up in your car in the first place, the ADAC carries out a test on selected child seat brands every six months.

This autumn, 20 child seats were tested, with a price range of 239.00 euros - 660.00 euros, from infant carriers to seats for larger children. The seats are checked for safety, handling, ergonomics and pollutant content. The most important test is probably the famous crash test, in which a side impact and a frontal impact are carried out on the child seat. A grade is awarded for each of the 4 criteria. This grade then results in the overall grade for the test. However, if a child seat fails one of the 4 criteria, the seat is out of the running.

The result

As already mentioned at the beginning, this year's ADAC autumn test was overwhelmingly positive. Only the baby seat "Jané Koos i-Size R1 + iPlatform Comfy" got the grade poor. The reason is the high pollutant content of the baby seat. The testers found naphthalene and the flame retardant TCPP in the cover of the baby seat, both of which are considered carcinogenic.

The other 19 seats passed all test criteria. 8 child seats achieved the test rating "satisfactory", 11 the rating "good".

Leader Bugaboo Turtle Air + Turtle Air Wingbase

With an overall rating of 1.6, the Bugaboo Turtle Air + Turtle Air Wingbase infant car seat impressed in the ADAC test. The baby seat came out of the test with the best marks in the 4 criteria: safety, handling, ergonomics and pollutant content. According to the ADAC, a secure seat that is easy and stable to assemble.

But the Turtle Air infant car seat can also leave the test with pride. With an overall grade of 2.0, the baby seat can be bought without hesitation. It received the test result "good" in all 4 evaluation criteria. Among other things, the patented Tailor Tech memory foam, which provides optimum side impact protection, ensures the good result. The baby seat also has the safe i-Size standard Baby seat from Bugaboo came to the good test result. The baby seat can be rotated 360°, which makes it easier for you to put your sweetheart in and out.In addition, the ultra-light child seat can be used as a travel system, which means you can easily get out of the car with the baby seat switch to the pram Another plus point - the baby seat is also approved for the plane.

The Britax Römer Kidfix child seat scores in the pollutant rating

As one of the best seats for larger children in the 100 - 150 cm category, the Britax Römer Kidfix from ADAC with the grade 1.8 excellent. The child seat, which is more in the lower price category and can be used up to the age of 12, impressed with its excellent safety features, such as the i-Size standard, the XP-PAD, the SecureGuard and the additional side impact protection SIC. The Britax child seat was also able to convince the testers in terms of handling and ergonomics. The growing headrest, the V-shaped ergonomic backrest and the slim design brought the Kidfix points in the test grade.

However, the pollutant criterion made up the majority of the overall grade. The child seat even received the best rating here. The Kidfix in the Green Sense collection consists exclusively of 100% recycled polyester.

We think it's a child's seat where you like to sit your child!

BeSafe Stretch ensures top marks in the safety criterion

Reaboard - the BeSafe Stretch child seat and thus convinced the testers in this year's autumn ADAC child seat test. The reaborder completed the safety assessment with the grade "very good".

The ergonomics and pollutant criteria also scored well with good test results. This is particularly due to the headrest that grows with the child and the legroom, despite rear-facing driving. The durable, recyclable materials give the child seat the best mark in the pollutant criterion.

However, there were points deducted in the handling of the seat, which probably gambled away the victory for the Reaborder in the overall score. This is probably due to the seat belt installation, which makes it difficult to install the seat. However, we think this depends on your installation preferences.

The Maxi Cosi Titan Plus i-Size as the test winner in the category of multi-age child seats

The Maxi Cosi Titan Plus i-Size Child seat. So it is not surprising that the child seat convinced the testers in the current ADAC test in terms of safety and ergonomics. You can already use the cross-group seat for your 15-month-old sweetheart and give them safety and comfort with the seat up to the age of 12. The Titan Pro i-Size not only offers the safe i-Size standard, it also has the patented AirProtect safety cushion in the headrest, which reduces the risk of head injuries. In addition, the seat comes with G-Cell 2.0 side impact protection, which directs the forces of an impact away from your child. The headrest that grows with you and the ClimaFlow temperature regulation ensure comfort and gave the seat good points for the overall result in the test.

The Maxi Cosi Titan Pro i-Size child seat was particularly impressive with its extremely low level of pollution. The child seat received a „very good" rating here.

The child seat was only given a satisfactory rating in terms of handling.

022. For example, the manufacturer of the test loser Linelo Antoon RWF reacted to the test result and improved the child seat, whose cover material showed a high level of flame protection.
