Buggy test 2024: test winner Joolz Aer+ and Bugaboo Butterfly

When your darling can finally sit independently, a buggy is needed. It should be light and handy and your little passenger should sit comfortably and safely. But which buggies meet these criteria? In its current test, Stiftung Warentest put 12 buggies with adjustable backrests through their paces. We would like to introduce you to two of the test winners, the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly.

The test criteria

The buggies were tested against, among other things, the standards for strollers and the safety criteria for toys. Stiftung Warentest set the parameters for the 12 buggies with adjustable backrests as child-friendly design, handling, durability, safety and pollutant content.

The result

Of the 12 buggies tested, only 3 were rated good: the Maxi Cosi Soho, the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly. A total of 5 buggy models failed the buggy test due to high pollutant levels. But it wasn't just the pollutant levels that were criticized. Almost all buggies were criticized for their virtually non-existent lying area and their uncomfortable seating. Criteria that the Buggyboo Butterfly and the Joolz Aer+ also had to endure. Nevertheless, the positive features of both strollers outweighed them, such as their easy handling and durability, which was even given the top grade of 1.0. There were also good reviews when it came to safety.

4 reasons for the good test rating of the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly

1. Compact and lightweight

Both buggies have a lot in common; they are ideal as travel buggies. The lightweights can be folded compactly and quickly. Ideal if you want to stow the buggy in the trunk of your car or are going on a long train journey. Even more ideal: both buggies are approved for hand luggage on the plane. The world is your oyster and your little Mini with the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly.

2. The nap is guaranteed

Even though the lying position of most buggies in the current buggy test was criticized, both the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly can leave the test with their heads held high. While the Joolz Aer+ can be raised with a sleeping position, the Bugaboo Butterfly comes with a lying position. Your little passenger can treat themselves to a comfortable nap on your buggy adventures.

3.ergonomic seats

The seats of the buggies tested were also criticized. The backrest of the baby jogger, for example, turned out to be too short. The Chicco and the Hartan were also criticized because their backrest was far too short.

The backrest of the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly, on the other hand, adapt to your little Mini. Both strollers also have an ergonomic seat with padding. The Aer+ can even boast an integrated fan in the seat.

4. Seat covers without harmful substances

The pollutant criterion is a topic that shouldn't actually play a role at all, since pollutants have no place in strollers. Nevertheless, there are a total of 5 buggies that failed the current Buggy test by Stiftung Warentest due to their high pollutant content. The Avus from ABC Design, the City Tour from Baby Jogger, the Easywalker Jackey, the Zac from Moon and the Travel N Care from Hauck had such high amounts of fluorine compounds and naphthalene.

The pollutant content of the seat covers for the Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly, on the other hand, received a good grade. The Joolz Aer+ can even score points in terms of sustainability. Its seat covers are made from recycled material. So you can put your little passenger in one of the two buggies without any worries.

Conclusion

In the current buggy test by Stiftung Warentest, many of the buggies tested performed poorly. The main reason was the many pollutants in the covers. Another point of criticism was that many buggies were not designed to be child-friendly. Criticisms included a backrest that was too low, which prevented proper leaning, or seats that could not be folded down completely horizontally.

The Joolz Aer+ and the Bugaboo Butterfly, on the other hand, were able to boast good test results. The stroller models impress with their safety and comfort. They were produced with almost no harmful substances, are easy to handle, impress with their compact dimensions and are therefore suitable as a space-saving alternative for traveling. A small drawback - both strollers are priced higher.
